After initial studies in architecture at QUT (formerly QIT), David Henderson spent four years at London’s Royal Academy Schools, graduating in 1985. He has since held over thirty solo exhibitions of his work, mostly in in Brisbane but also in Melbourne, Sydney, London and Rome. He has been the recipient of several awards, including the S.J. Solomon Prize at the Royal Academy and best of show at the Rotary Exhibition on two occasions. He has taught for a number of institutions and since 1995 has lectured regularly in art history for ASA Cultural Tours in France and Italy. His subjects include portraiture, the figure, landscape and urban landscape. David’s landscape work explores the relationship between the human and natural worlds and seeks to convey the mood and spirit of specific places as much as their appearance. His approach to painting could be described as ‘classical’, aiming for pictorial harmony through compositional structure and light.
